Mixing Vintage Architecture with Modern Technology Blog

Wireless smart home devices can work wonders in older, vintage homes. The East Coast has the distinction of having some of the oldest cities in the U.S., and its architecture reflects it. Charming, vintage homes are lovingly preserved by their owners, paying homage to a time long ago. But this doesn’t mean modern technology shouldn’t take up residence in an older home. You just need to choose the right types of products. Double Double “Tech” and Trouble: Top Halloween Apps Blog

Halloween is fast approaching and it is my favorite time of year! The spookiness of October always excites me. I can’t get enough witches, ghosts and zombies on TV so I decided to look and see what fun I could cook up on my phone. Here are some of the best (and free) apps I found: Zombify (iPhone) / ZombieBooth (Android) Ages 12+ Ok, this one is super addicting. This app allows you to transform your face or the faces of your friends and family into disgustingly-fabulous zombies! Looks like I could go for a good dental cleaning and a bandaid or two. Camera Hoax (iPhone) Ages 12+ Take a picture and put one of the app’s scary stickers in it.

The Control4 Advantage Blog

This post comes to us from Lisa Montgomery, Senior Editor at Electronic House and freelance home technology writer. When designed and installed properly by a trained, knowledgeable home automation integrator, an automation system is able to perform some amazing feats. This goes for systems offered by Control4, as well as many other home automation products on the market. Where the differences between systems often lie is in the engineering of their control platforms. For example, some system may have the ability to control just about anything, but actually getting the system to do so may require extensive—and expensive—programming.

Get Smart in 2019: Environmental and Energy Conservation using Smart Home Tech Blog

This article was contributed by Sam Radbil from ABODO apartment listings. Energy conservation used to be a matter of sealing window and door leaks, adding insulation, turning down the thermostat and putting on a sweater. While all of those ideas will help, using smart home devices can save homeowners quite a bit of money when it comes to energy bills.   Did you know the typical U.S. family spends at least $2,200 per year on energy bills and nearly half of that pays for heating and cooling?    The Way We Were Thermostats used to be little round things with a mercury bulb in them.

This week, we debuted a proof-of-concept to unite smart home functionality with connected cars; a topic that is proving to be a popular one this year. This proof-of-concept was accomplished by leveraging SmartDeviceLink (SDL) technology, open-source software from a Ford-owned company, Livio, designed specifically to integrate Internet functionality into vehicles. This is really exciting to show the future of car and home connectivity, where drivers have a convenient and responsible way to remotely access all of their most frequently used smart home devices while on the road.
