Smart Lighting: A Smart Home Essential Blog
What makes a smart home truly intelligent? To us, one of the smartest—and most convenient—components that can be included in every smart home is smart lighting. With benefits like energy efficiency, added peace of mind, streamlined day-to-day activities, and automated actions, it’s pretty easy to see why. Or is it? What does smart lighting actually entail? Let’s shed some light on the subject. (See what we did there?) WHAT IS SMART LIGHTING? It’s not a fancy bulb or an app on your phone; although, those can certainly be part of it! It’s the intertwining of the lighting in your home, the multiple functions you can create with them, and the ways in which you can control it all.

User Interfaces—The Human Link to a Home Automation System Blog
Automation occurs when the state of a device, product or system changes without any human interaction. It happens when your home environment is able to adapt to your needs all by itself—no tap of a button or a flip of a switch is required. While home automation systems are perfectly capable of running a household in this hands-off fashion, many homeowners feel more comfortable being able to actively operate the various products and systems under the backing of an automation system. Rather than relying completely on a system to tell the lights, thermostats, A/V equipment and other devices how and when to adjust, they like having the power to make these changes, too, and the tool they use to do so is what the industry refers to as a “user interface.” A user interface is basically a device that enables a person to easily monitor the status of the every product that has been tied to a home automation system and to control these products on the fly.
The “Internet of Things” and Home Automation Blog
Every year at CES there are certain technological “themes” that emerge. Manufacturers constantly aim to pioneer a product category, but this rarely happens, as several similar brands seem to show up with the same “revolutionary” or concept product. There were three themes that really stood out to me this year at CES. 1. Curved displays 2. Wearable technology 3. Connected devices I’m going to talk primarily about the third technology that seemed to be everywhere on the CES show floor. A connected device is basically any electronic component that has the ability to connect to the Internet, either directly or through the cloud.

iPhone 5 - Why Should I Upgrade? Blog
The iPhone 5 will be released to the masses on Friday and as an admitted Apple fanboy I'm pretty excited for this release. I'm currently still using an iPhone 4 so I will definitely be upgrading to the iPhone 5. I'll have to wait until I can actually get my hands on one to figure out how much better this thing really is than its predecessor but here are the things I'm most excited about: It's bigger and yet thinner - I'm very excited to see what the bigger screen looks like and how that will change the way I use my phone. If anything, the Control4 MyHome app should look fantastic on the bigger screen.
