1080 Solutions Delivers Full Control4 Integration at Whitecraigs Residence

Located in the prestigious suburb of Whitecraigs in Glasgow, this four-story residential property has recently undergone a dramatic smart home overhaul led by 1080 Solutions Ltd. The project, which began as a systems takeover in early 2024, has resulted in a fully integrated, high-performance environment that delivers seamless operation across lighting, AV, heating, automation and a wide range of personaised home features.

Originally a self-build project started in 2023, the home spans a basement, ground floor, first floor and second floor layout. The homeowner approached 1080 Solutions Ltd after the initial automation work fell short of expectations. What followed was a comprehensive rebuild that brought the entire home in line with the owner’s vision for reliable, intuitive and beautifully integrated smart home technology.

“From day one, we knew we had to start from scratch,” explains Asim Arshad, Managing Director at 1080 Solutions Ltd. “The existing rack wasn’t fit for purpose, so we began by dismantling everything, re-ran and reorganised the cabling, and rebuilt the system properly to give ourselves the right foundation to move forward.”

Once the system was stripped back and re-engineered, the priority was to rebuild the smart home platform around a core control system. Leading with Control4, this central system included the CA-10 Smart Home Processor and Core 5 Smart Home Processor, which were paired with the Araknis Dual-WAN Multi-Gigabit VPN Router and Ubiquiti Gigabit Ethernet Switch with both 24 and 48 ports. A Wattbox IPVertical Power Strip & Conditioner was also integrated to provide critical surge protection for equipment.

Asim describes Control4 as central to delivering the performance and flexibility the client wanted, particularly given the scale of the property and its intricate lighting design. The home features more than 130 lighting loads delivered through a fully centralised lighting system using Control4 8-Channel Adaptive Phase Dimmer, DIN-Rail 8-Channel Relay and C4-SKCB2-NSquare Wired Configurable keypads. Multiple LED zones and bespoke lighting scenes needed precise synchronisation, and Control4’s DCM interface provided the right tools to manage colour, brightness and timing across each area.

Throughout the home, additional smart elements were also installed for seamless control, including Control4 in-wall touchscreens, smart remote controls, smart doorbell and an intercom system.

“We wanted the homeowner to feel like every button had a purpose,” says Asim. “He is very detail oriented and wanted real value from his investment, so Control4 was ideal. It allowed us to give him total control of lighting, blinds, heating and audio in every area of the house.”

One of the most unique elements of the Whitecraigs home is the integrated car lift and rotating turntable located in the basement. On arrival, vehicles enter the ground-floor garage and descend via a lift into a striking lower-level display area. From there, a motorised turntable rotates the car into the perfect position. Control4 manages the entire sequence. The homeowner can activate rotation using simple wall switch commands or via their phone and handheld remote.

“We integrated the spindle using a Control4relay and programmed it so that up rotates the car right and down rotates it left,” explains Asim. “He can adjust everything from his phone too. The responsiveness really impressed him.”

The basement also includes a fully equipped gym that looks onto the garage through a glass panel, as well as a premium Dolby Atmos cinema featuring Episode 12ch and 16ch Multi Zone Matrix amplifiers, a 5.1 Surround Sound amplifier and a subwoofer amplifier for an unforgettable immersive experience. All lighting, audio, heating and scene control in these spaces is delivered through Control4.

Taking over a partially completed system always presents challenges, but the scale of this project required careful planning. Re-engineering the cabling, managing extensive LED zoning and meeting the homeowner’s high expectations meant that 1080 Solutions Ltd worked closely with Control4’s technical support team throughout the process.

Control4 provided early on-site support and a detailed system audit, helping Asim identify key issues and upgrade requirements.

“Having the Control4 technical team behind us was invaluable,” says Asim. “They helped diagnose the faults and gave us the confidence to deliver the right solution. It made a huge difference.”

Since completion, 1080 Solutions Ltd has remained actively involved, providing updates and enhancements as the client discovers new ways they want to use the technology.

“This has become a long-term relationship rather than a single project. We have revisited the property many times to tweak and upgrade the system as the homeowner’s needs evolve.”

Today, the Whitecraigs property functions as a highly personalised and exceptionally reliable Control4home. From everyday convenience such as heating and blind control to showpiece elements including the car lift and cinema, every part of the system has been designed to elevate the homeowner’s lifestyle.

“The most rewarding thing is hearing the client say how brilliant everything feels now,” adds Asim. “His faith in smart home technology has been completely restored. We took a complex and challenging project and turned it into something he is truly proud of.”
