Project Spotlight: The Score of Cool Springs

When you visit The Score of Cool Springs, you’ll discover that the days of playing video games in a musty basement are over.  Think of The Score as a movie theater for video games. Gamers can participate in tournaments and leagues or even reserve the store for a private event. The Score also supports additional programming built around current-generation video game consoles.

After Allied Home Technologies installed a Control4 system to manage his home theater, Bradley Metrock, owner of The Score, saw the possibilities for his new business. Based in Franklin, Tennessee, The Score asked Allied, a Control4 dealer, to install a Control4 system that can manage multiple displays and game consoles through a single interface. As Jim Anderson, Allied’s owner, noted, “If Control4 didn’t exist, The Score would need a full-time A/V technician. With Control4, any employee can come in and run the system with minimal training.”

The physical center of The Score, gamers will love The Arena, the spot where The Score holds its video game competitions. Designed by Chris Riley of Manuel Zeitlin Architects, The Arena was inspired by the largest science museum in the Netherlands, the New Metropolis. Control4 helps make The Arena the centerpiece of The Score by integrating and managing multiple systems. Surround sound complements the two, 100-inch screens, installed back-to-back in The Arena, making it easier for gamers and watchers to see the action projected by two Panasonic projectors. Best suited for 4-on-4 competition, The Arena isn’t the only area for game play.

Scattered throughout The Score, visitors can also check out the latest games on multiple Score Stations. These Score Stations are made up of Samsung flat panel TVs connected to the Control4 system, allowing store employees to switch gamers between eight consoles (e.g., xBox 360, Nintendo Wii, or PS3). Using a Control4 7’’ touchscreen, any console can be displayed on any screen in The Score.

More than just video games, The Score also becomes the place to be when local favorites, the Tennessee Titans, take to the field. Game day is displayed throughout the store courtesy of the integrated DirectTV box. With Control4, The Score can also be opened and closed automatically. For example, the entire system is programmed to turn on 10 minutes before opening and shut everything down 10 minutes after the scheduled closing. This option can be enabled or disabled as needed if store hours change or private parties have reserved The Score for after-hour events. In addition, plans are in place to add automatic lighting controls, making Control4 a store-wide automation solution that can accommodate the needs of a growing business.
